Electric Meter Replacement Project

Coming Soon to a meter near you!

Truckee Donner PUD is replacing your existing electric meter with an industry-standard meter with improved performance.  The current meters are reaching the end of their useful life and will be replaced with industry-standard Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) electric meters, which are the most efficient and cost-effective electric meters available today.

This project starts in April 2018 and will conclude by the end of 2019.  You will be notified when your meter is scheduled to be replaced and you will only be without power for a short time

You will be notified by letter within 2 weeks of work in your neighborhood.   You will also receive a phone call
7 - 10 days before your meter is changed out so you may plan for a brief electric outage.

We will be working in the neighborhood of Tahoe Donner / Ski Slope Way the week of 9/17/17.  .   (view map here)

The electric meter replacement project will:

  • Eliminate the need to drive by monthly to read meters
  • Give you secure access to your account, the ability to understand your electric usage, and will provide opportunities for conservation and energy efficiency
  • Improve our response time to electric outages, increase reliability and provide more timely usage data.

Please refer to our Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about why your meter is being replaced or contact our Customer Service team (530) 587-3896.

Did you know the TDPUD has requirements for homeowners who choose to surround their meter panel with a decorative enclosure or recess their meter panel in a wall?  Following these requirements will ensure that the enclosure has the proper clearance to TDPUD's meter and that TDPUD can safely service and read the meter. Decorative enclosure and recessed enclosure requirements are available in PDF form on the District website at www.tdpud.org/departments/electric/construction-standards.  (specifically pages 5 & 6)
