School Resource Officers help bridge the gap between the School District, the Police Department, and the students/community. School Resource Officers are police officers who assist in mentoring, coaching, teaching and protecting the students and School District staff. Three Newton Police officers are currently assigned as School Resource Officers working with the Newton Public Schools - USD 373. All the SROs are members of the National Association of School Resource Officers. Officer Jon Adkins is a certified ChildFirst Forensic Interviewer.
Officer Steven Hamersky is assigned to Chisholm Middle School, Santa Fe 5/6 Center and Newton High School. He will work with Officer Hulse in varying shifts at the schools.
Officer Joshua Hulse is assigned to Chisholm Middle School, Santa Fe 5/6 Center and Newton High School. He will work with Officer Hamersky in varying shifts at the schools.
Officer Jon Adkins is assigned to Northridge Elementary School, Slate Creek Elementary School, South Breeze Elementary School, Sunset Elementary School, Walton Rural Life Center and Cooper Early Education Center. He is a football coach for Chisholm Middle School.
In addition to their assigned schools, the School Resource Officers assist each other, the Patrol Unit and the Investigations Division.
